Cardiff New Brass Festival

cardiffnewbrassfestivallogo

Matthew was invited to compose a brand new work for the 2011 Cardiff New Brass Festival which ran from the 10th to the 12th June.

The work, entitled Velvet Black Sunshine, received its premiere performance by the Wormshead Brass Quintet during the festival at Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral of St David on Friday 10th June.

4barsrest.com, the online magazine dedicated to all brass music, had this to say about the composition: –

Matt Hall’s highly descriptive exploration of the intriguing world of Synesthesia was more openly transparent; an intriguing mix of pulsating upbeat shining vibrancy and sombre all enveloping darkness.

Champions League Final

Tredegar Champions League Final 2011

As Composer-in-Residence with Tredegar Town Band, Matthew was asked to arrange 3 pieces to perform at Wembley for the 2011 Champions League Final.

The band had been asked to perform to the fans arriving at the historic National Stadium, including playing the well-known ‘Champions League Theme,’ ‘Glory Glory Man United’ and ‘Cant del Barca.’ As no arrangements existed for brass band of these pieces, Matthew arranged each one for the band to perform in front of an estimated 150,000 fans gathered for the Champions League Final.

Wedding Bells

WoodfallsLogo

Matthew was asked to write a brand new piece for 2 friends who were getting married in the summer of 2010. Sarah and Simon Persin wanted something special and memorable for the opening of their wedding ceremony and something new and unique for Sarah to walk down the aisle to, accompanied by the SWT Woodfalls Band.

Gorymdeithgan Priodas (Wedding March) consists of a fanfare style opening leading into a slower middle section for the bride to walk down the aisle, before the opening section returns signalling the coming together of the husband and wife to be. The piece is fantastic for a couple who would like something different to walk down the aisle to, especially if like Sarah and Simon, you are big fans of Brass Bands.
